Vanitas

Vanitas explores the theme of winter, and how the season often brings about a sense of finality and decay that can negatively affect the psyche.

During the winter months, it could be said that nature goes through a decomposition process: the trees lose their leaves, animals begin to disappear as they hibernate or migrate to warmer climates, green and blue colours are replaced with brown and grey. In a way, winter purges the natural world. The deterioration of nature could provoke one to think about their own decay; winter induces morbid self-reflection.
